Message from the Principal
|
Hello BHS Community - This upcoming week is a busy one at BHS. Tuesday is our final day of semester one classes and next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we will have a modified bell schedule in order to accommodate a final exam/project/presentation time in classes. It also gives time in the afternoon for teachers to meet one on one or in smaller groups with students to complete work or needing extra time. Grab and go breakfast will be available in the morning, and grab and go sack lunch available at early dismissal in the cafeteria. Congrats to all of our students on the near completion of first semester!
On Tuesday our school gathered as a community to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and affirm our commitment to each other and our island to uphold our shared values of inclusion, equity, anti-racism, and justice as well as the accountability we must commit to each other around our shared beliefs. A special thank you to our amazing student speakers for their moving words as well as to our community elders for their wisdom and passion. It was a very moving and memorable time for connection as a school.
With appreciation,
Kristina Rodgers, BHS Principal

Grade 11 College Planning ~ Jan 28
|
Grade 11 College Planning from 11:00-11:35 (during CCS time) will be on Tuesday, January 28th in the Theater. The original presentation was postponed because of a power outage.
High school counselors will be presenting information about what colleges are looking for, what you should be doing and thinking about now (hint-hint - RESEARCH AND VISIT), and will share some resources. The goal is to give the juniors an overview of the college process so they can plan ahead and ease any potential stress.
Is your student interested? Students-only (using their Frogrock email) can sign-up using this Google Form. This form will close on Monday, January 27th at 1:30. And don’t forget that attendance will be taken.
As of right now, this is for students only but we’ll email everyone the PPT and any resources after the presentation. There will also be a similar presentation for parents during our “Beyond BHS” event in February (more information will be given at a later time). As always, please email your assigned counselor for specific questions about your student.

Group Counseling Offered to 10th graders
|
The high school counselors are excited to share that we will be offering small group counseling to our sophomore students this Spring.
What is group counseling? Group counseling is a form of counseling where a small group of people (8-10) meet regularly to discuss, interact, and explore problems with each other and the group leader. Group counseling seeks to give students a safe and comfortable place on campus to learn strategies and skills, connect with other students or discuss topics of mutual concern in a confidential setting. Members gain insight into their own thoughts and behavior, and offer suggestions and support to others. It's also a fun way to meet new people and not feel alone :)
The group sessions will be offered on a weekly basis (about 6-8 sessions). They'll be during a class period but on a rotating schedule so you won't miss the same class period every time.
After we receive the responses, a counselor will call the student down to see if this is a good fit.
Is your student interested? Students only (using their Frogrock email) will need to fill-out this Google Form by Wednesday, January 29th.
