What is an Internship and Why You Should Participate

An internship is a structured work experience program that allows individuals to gain hands-on exposure to a specific industry or profession. It provides an invaluable opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, learn essential skills, and explore potential career paths. High school students should consider participating in internships because they offer a unique chance to discover their interests and passions, build a professional network, and gain practical experience that can enhance college applications and future job prospects. Internships provide a glimpse into the professional world, helping students make informed decisions about their academic and career goals, while also fostering personal growth and responsibility.

The BISD Internship Program

The BISD CTE Department is coordinating an internship program with several local employers/organizations.  Students enrolled at BHS and EHHS who are interested in interning are encouraged to apply to the program. This program runs from March-May 2024 (unless otherwise noted).  Students will be scheduled at the worksite for interning on Mondays from 2:00 – 4:30 pm. (unless otherwise noted). Each internship includes interactions and planned activities designed to give the students exposure to multiple aspects of the business/organization where they are interning.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the internship work site and must commit to attending all the planned weeks of the internship.   Student applicants must be at least 16 years old.

Local organizations/businesses will be conducting a competitive interview process to place student interns. Interested students can apply for the program by submitting a resume (via email), indicating which organization they would like to intern with, and submitting a signed Parent/Guardian Consent Form.
