About Me

Science is not only what we know about the universe and how it works. It is also a process for discovering those things. I am passionate about science, and I enjoy sharing that passion with my students. Together, we engage daily in the practice of science, discovering for ourselves the workings of everything around us and increasing our overall understanding of how it all fits together, both the things we can see and those we cannot.

While I have lived on Bainbridge Island most of my adult life, I didn't come to teaching until 2018. Prior to teaching, I worked in chemical process development and chemical engineering, including consumer products, industrial chemicals, oral care, and renewable fuels and chemicals. I enjoy incorporating my industrial and business experience into my teaching, something that comes naturally with the subject of science.

I hold a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a doctorate from the University of Washington, both in chemical engineering and I am a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Washington.
