About Me

I love helping students understand topics they initially perceive as difficult and dispelling rumors that chemistry is boring, really hard, and only for "smart kids.” I know how chemistry gets that reputation because I struggled with it in high school. I hope my unfortunate experiences back then help my students because I learned where the challenges are and how to avoid the pitfalls.

I have taught for over 20 years at various grade levels, including preschool! Prior to entering the teaching profession, I spent most of my 20s as a professional actor, which means I also worked in a lot of restaurants. In between acting and teaching, I worked as an administrative assistant for several healthcare organizations, which inspired my interest in the sciences. Fact: all my previous employment experiences have helped me bring a well-rounded, real-world approach to the classroom.

I am the proud father of three grown sons, and have two cats and a dog. In my spare time I love to read, listen to music, garden, and watch sports, especially baseball: Go Mariners! I also play golf, board games & cards, and do my best to stay physically & emotionally fit.

I was born & raised in Bexley, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus), and have lived in the Puget Sound region since 1997.
