The American Mathematics Competition (AMC) is a challenging, nationally standardized math competition emphasizing problem solving and thinking outside of the box. It is a 75 minute test, and there are 25 questions. Problems will be unlike those you have seen in your math class, and it is a great opportunity to get practice thinking outside of the box!
This test will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, November 13th. Students will be excused from first and second period classes.
Sign up here by Tuesday, October 13. The cost is $10, and payment is due October 20.

The juniors are rounding things out with a generous $1,344, bringing our schoolwide total to $6,694! Last year’s winning class received limited-edition stickers featuring their graduation year. Who will take the prize this year?

With recent news about neighboring districts adjusting early-grade screen time, we want to reassure our community that Bainbridge Island School District is taking a thoughtful, district-wide approach to digital learning. In our K–2 classrooms, we actively limit screen time—typically 0 to 15 minutes daily for Kindergarten and 1st grade, and 0 to 30 minutes for 2nd grade—ensuring devices are used strictly for targeted, teacher-led activities or assessments while hands-on learning, physical reading, and play remain the foundation.
Looking across all grade levels, our goal is for BISD students to graduate with the digital skills and fluency needed to navigate an increasingly connected world. However, technology should never replace hands-on learning, critical thinking, active discussion, and direct personal connection.
To guide this balance, our newly established Technology Advisory Council—composed of parents, staff, students, and community members—is actively engaging in K–12 discussions to evaluate digital tools and set clear, evidence-based guidelines for technology use in our schools.
