Message from the Principal

Hello BHS families,

Walking onto campus this week and seeing the hearts created by our ceramic students was such a lovely way to start. It reflected the relationships I felt all around me as I observed students interacting with one another and with staff. I am truly looking forward to being here and getting to know you and your students.

Since retiring, I’ve had the opportunity to support several schools, and I always enjoy learning each community’s systems, norms, and culture. I’m here to support the good work already underway so that we can finish the school year smoothly and positively.

Next week is mid‑winter break, which always seems to arrive at just the right time during these short winter days. I hope you all enjoy a restful break and safe travels.

Warmly, Ruth Medsker

BISD Attendance Campaign

This February, our attendance focus is “I Belong Here,” as part of our Show Up & Show Out campaign. In high school, feeling connected to caring adults and a supportive school community plays a key role in students’ motivation, engagement, and persistence toward graduation.

Everyday actions—being noticed, checked in on after an absence, and encouraged by teachers and staff—help students feel valued and supported. When students feel they belong, they are more likely to attend regularly, stay engaged in learning, and build habits that support academic success, continuing enrollment, and well-being.

A strong sense of belonging is linked to improved academic outcomes and is protective for mental health. At BISD, EVERY student and EVERY family are valued. Together, we can create school environments where every student knows they matter—and that we are better when they are here.

Congratulations BHS - 90% of students have attended 90% of the school year!
